Charter Fishing out of Charleston, Oregon
Jerry L. (we will not give out any personal information) has spent his life in his home state of Colorado and admits it is a great place to be. However, as an avid fisherman his desires had not been filled. Jerry enjoys every chance possible to hit the rivers and lakes for a weekend of fishing. Sometimes alone, sometimes with his son or his whole family. But what Jerry really wanted to do was DEEP SEA fishing. After visiting our website, Travel West Vacation, Jerry found in the section on Oregon exactly what he wanted. He found the DEEP SEA Charter Boats of the Oregon Coast. Jerry started planning for his next vacation. He was going to Coos County in Oregon and visit the small town of Charleston. Charleston is a fishing village located just 5 miles south of Coos Bay.
This small fishing town is at the entrance to Coos Bay. All sea going vessels must use this water gateway. Fishing boats all the way up to the massive commercial Ships that carry merchandise and products to and from foreign countries. Deep Sea fishing is the main business of the Charleston harbor. The picture above shows some of the many boats moored at the docks waiting for the right tide change. Charter boats are one of the most exciting ways for the avid fisherman to enjoy their favorite sport. Fishermen will often make reservations for a day on the charter boat many months in advance and travel many miles to fulfill the dream of catching the BIG one. A lot of the local residents will buy fish right off the boats when they return to port. A woman is buying her fresh Tuna in the photo above. Jerry said that in all his years of fishing he had never enjoyed anything more than his vacation in Charleston and the trip on the charter boats. He caught the BIG one and has already made his plans for a return visit. He is recommending the vacation of a lifetime to all his friends. There is a lot more to Charleston than just fishing. There are some fine seafood restaurants, gift shops, motels and even a mini-mall. Charleston is also home to a major shipyard where ships of all sizes can count on repairs or anything else they need. Below are a couple of photos of a ship that was rebuilt in the shipyard. The owner of this vessel wanted the boat to be a little longer so he had Charleston Shipyard cut the stern section off, add a 4 foot section in the middle and then replace the stern. It was a large and expensive job but the owner felt it to be a worthwhile project. This vessel is now fishing off the Oregon Coast and calls the harbor of Newport home. Charleston is also the doorway to several beautiful State Parks. Sunset Beach State Park, Shore Acres State Park and Cape Arago State Park are all within 5 miles of Charleston and all are worth a visit.
