This addition to my site is at the suggestions of Mr. Daryl Roe, a top mortgage and lending specialist with Rockefeller Funding in Fresno.

Fresno is one of the major cities in the state of California. Fresno was founded in 1856 and acquired its name from the Spanish.

In Spanish the word "fresno" means Ash Tree. These Ash trees are found in abundance along the banks of the San Joaquin River.

The city settled around the Central Pacific's Fresno Railroad station and grew into the town of Fresno. It became an incorporated city in 1895.

Fresno County is located in the San Joaquin Valley and the county is known for agriculture and food processing. It it the home to some of the major businesses like Kraft Foods, Sun-Maid and Foster Farms just to mention a few.

Fresno is also the home to many fine restaurants, Museums and Theaters. The Fresno Metropolitan Museum is well worth a visit.

For those who enjoy their music there is the Fresno Philharmonic which started in a high school auditorium in 1954 has now become an important part of the community.

There are many places for the sightseers in and around Fresno. One very interesting stop is the Forestiere Underground Gardens. It is actually a myriad of tunnels and caverns which were hand dug by one man for the purpose of growing fruits and vegetables underground.

One can marvel at the Fresno Water Tower which stands over 100 feet high. And the Shinzen Japanese Gardens.

The area also includes many state parks like Sequoia and Kings Canyon and of course, Yosemite National Park.

Fresno County is also home to some very good sources of wine. If you are a wine enthusiast then a vacation through some of the many vineyards and wineries would be a trip well worth the time.

When traveling through California be sure to add a visit to Fresno to your list of things to do. Check out all the sights and activities the city has to offer.
